Phillip Chardon

I believe it is a political act to provide the best possible education with the highest expectations to all students. I have fulfilled this mission as a history teacher in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, and currently work as the Vice-Principal of Student Support at CAT. I grew up in the Bay Area and attended UC Santa Barbara where I received a degree in History and a Masters in Education. I have since completed a second Masters in Education Leadership. In my personal life, I enjoy politics, graffiti art, photography and traveling. I married my college sweetheart, and we have a beautiful 4 year-old daughter . We currently reside in San Francisco, CA.

One thing that I鈥檓 proud of in my work at CAT is leading two clubs, the Young Men of Distinction, a club aimed at supporting young men in leadership and development, and the Muslim Student Association, a club for students interested in the rich culture of Islam.

City Arts & Leadership Academy Principal

Dear CAL Academy Students and Families,

Thank you for a wonderful first semester! We have a lot to celebrate this school year. We have just finished Presentations of Learning and Family Conferences. During the Presentations of Learning students shared how their learning related to one of our Grad Profile Competencies, such as Critical Thinking or Collectivism. Each student presented at their conference to their families and Advisor. The presentations were thoughtful, reflective, and demonstrated the hard work of our students!聽

Senior students also participated in College Application Day with the support of teachers and counselors. With college and university applications due soon, this was an important opportunity for Seniors to get the guidance, support, and time needed to successfully apply. 100% of our Seniors are on track to meet California鈥檚 A-G Requirements which are needed in order to be accepted to a four-year university. We can鈥檛 wait to see what schools they are accepted to!聽

This year, our Leadership Class has put on incredible school events, including our recent Halloween Carnival. Students collaborated on the creation of a 鈥淗aunted Hallway,鈥 and there were games and competitions for all students. In Spanish class, students learned about the traditions of Dia de los Muertos and contributed to a display in our front entry. We鈥檒l continue to have events and learning opportunities like these throughout the year.聽

Students have engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities during this first semester as well. Clubs are up and running, with the Cooking Club, Basketball Club, and Anime Club being some of the most popular! We just finished the Girls Volleyball season with a strong effort from the team. Next up, we have Girls and Boys Soccer and Basketball, which have just completed try outs!

As a small school, preparing your student for college, career, and life in a safe and supportive environment is our number one priority. We want to continue working together to achieve this goal.

Thank you,

Mr. Phillip Chardon
